November 21, 4102 Parshat Toldot Candle Lighting: 4:05 pm כח חשון תשע ה פרשת תולדות הדלקת נרות: A Message from the Principal Dear Parents, On Sunday, second graders celebrated their receiving of their first Chumashim in a beautiful Kabalat Chumash celebration attended by over 200 guest with many more watching remotely on our Livestream! Mazal tov Kitah Bet and thank you to Morah Adi Dimri and the entire 2nd grade team for instilling the Ahavat Torah (love of Torah) in our children! Click here to view the Kabbalat Chumah slideshow. It was great to see so many parents at Parent Teacher Conferences this Wednesday. A strong home-school partnership is a key factor in a child's healthy growth and development and it was wonderful to see so many of these conversations taking place. I look forward to seeing many parents at the second set of conferences next Monday evening as well. #HTlarious is sold out! Thank you to all who are attending the Comedy Night this Sunday at 6pm - you won't believe the gym when you see it! I look forward to seeing you and having a great time together. Shabbat Shalom, Chodesh Tov and Happy Thanksgiving, Rabbi Menachem Linzer Upcoming Events November 23 - Sunday 6:00 pm Dinner catered by Shallots 7:00 pm Hilarious Comedy! 24 - Monday HT: Roasted Drumsticks PN-8th Gr. Faculty Spotlight: Meet Mrs. Ornit Stein 2nd Grade Learns About Healthy Eating New Kindergarten C Teacher Ms. Sari Donenberg, Second Grade General Studies Teacher From: Gush Etzion, Israel What do you miss most about Israel? My friends College? David Yallin College Degrees: BA in Special Education and currently finishing up my masters in Educational Consulting Fun Fact: I have 4 beautiful children, three boys ages 4, 9, and 11 and a girl age 7. Best piece of advice you would give to your students: Believe you can do anything! On Monday morning, the second grade class had a special visitor. Chef Phillip Foss (father of Talia (2) and Noa (K) Foss) came to talk to the students about healthy eating, nutrition, and sugar moderation. Students were thrilled by Chef Foss's ability to make ice cream using liquid nitrogen! It was such a treat to have him in our classroom! Turkey-Time for Pre-Nursery A Mrs. Sandy Kanter, Pre-Nursery A Teacher This week has become Turkey-Time in Morah Sandy and Morah Naomi s pre-nursery class as we have been learning all about the holiday of Thanksgiving. The children enjoyed learning about the different symbols, traditions and history of the holiday. They were particularly excited to make their very own turkey centerpieces. Creating the centerpiece also developed students hand-eye coordination skills when they placed all the parts together and threaded the feathers through the turkey body. Our unit will culminate in a b yachad (get together) with the other pre-nursery class, to bake corn bread and have a Thanksgiving feast! 3rd Grade Publishing Party Ms. Carly Rosenberg, Third Grade General Studies Teacher The third grade has been working throughout the year in Writing Workshop to write their own Personal Narratives. They moved through the writing process first by generating ideas and planning, next by writing a rough draft, then by revising and editing it, and finally by writing a final draft and making a story cover. They organized their writing work in their four-pocketed Writing Folders throughout the Personal Narratives unit. Once finished, third graders celebrated their hard work with a Publishing Party, themed "Popcorn and Personal Narratives. They had the chance to eat popcorn and celebrate all their hard work by sharing their finished stories with their friends! After wrapping up our Personal Narratives, the third grade has now begun their new focus in Writing Workshop, writing Nonfiction "information books" about famous people, places, animals, sports, and other information topics. They are working their way through the writing process again, eagerly awaiting their next Publishing Party!

Fine Arts Forum: AWESOME ART ALERT! Mr. Michael Glassman, Fine Arts Instructor Now that we re hitting the first semester homestretch, it s high time to see all the art we ve made! The students have been working hard, wringing out as much creative juice as possible, and the results are now on display around the building. Make sure to check out: Kindergarten Tress in Season First Grade Primary Color Oviparous Animals Second Grade Pattern Hands Fourth Grade Symmetrical Creatures Fifth Grade Pattern Puzzles Sixth Grade Elemental Sculptures Eighth Grade M.C. Escher Tessellations Where can you find all of this fabulous artwork? Where can t you find it?! It s up and down every hallway, above and below on the walls, and even in the library! So come on over to HT and wander the halls a bit because student art is taking over, and it won t last forever! Israeli Soldiers Receive HT Students Letters in time for Shabbat Chevron The Shabbat of Parshat Chaye Sarah is commonly commemorated in Israel as Shabbat Chevron. Many soldiers from all over Israel usually gather together in Chevron for an inspirational Shabbat. With this in mind, our Lashon teachers worked with our students last week to write letters and make signs of thanks and support for the chayalim. We are so thankful to the Kupietzky family for delivering and distributing those letters in time for Shabbat! Check out the immediate connection we forged with the young people who give their lives to protect the Jewish State and the Jewish People. Save the date SUNDAY FUNDAY December 7, 2014 10:00-11:30 am The Alana Beth Stein Early Childhood Program invites all current and prospective PN, N and K families to a fun-filled morning at our pre-school campus. This month, three different groups went to three different locations and engaged in chesed and educational activities. Students visiting the Friedman Place met with the visually impaired residents and joined them in several fun games of bingo.! Keshet volunteers enjoyed getting a look at the unique classrooms which support these students and played a getting to know you game making use of several specially designed communication devices and techniques. Finally, Ark visitors received an in-depth tour of the amazing facilities and helped stock and organize pantry shelves. The boys even helped to fulfill the Mitzvah of completing a minyan for the Ark's patrons. Our 8th graders are wonderful ambassadors for Hillel Torah and provide much needed ongoing support to the Jewish community.
